AMA Hall of Fame Member Larry Renger submitted a summary of a recent Knights of the Round Circle contest they held at Whittier Narrows. The Knights are a great group of modelers that have 2 fine facilities one in Whittier Narrows the second at Sepulveda Basin. Larry sent some photos too they are right here.
Enjoy,

We flew the second annual Kwikee Stunt meet at Whittier Narrows last Sunday. Six pilots, 3 aircraft. The weather was excellent except for some gustiness on, of course, my flight. The top spot was hotly contested with only a half point difference between 1st and 2nd.
The event is really fun to fly, as you are in a bit of a tizzy remembering what to do next. With, at most one lap between maneuvers, it keeps you on your toes! Due to time constraints, we only flew one round. As a result, the whole contest took less than an hour! Entry was $1, and the prize was a $15 gift card to Subway Sandwiches.
Properly set up, these flat-wing flyers will do a clean set of all the PAMPA maneuvers with the correct size, shape, intersections and bottoms. You can't tell that the Skyfire doesn't have an airfoil. No stall, and sharp turns.
Results as follows:
1st Yours truly flying my Kwikee Skyfire with an AP Wasp .061, 45.5 points
2nd Stan Tyler, same plane, 45 points
3rd Andy Borgogna, same plane, 29.5 points
4th John Wright, Batplane with a Medallion .049, 21.5 points
5th Jed Kusik, Blackhawk Corsair with an AP Wasp .061, 14.75 points
6th Frank Martin, Kwikee Skyfire again, 9 points
Kwikee Stunt is a fun fly event where you do every maneuver in the PAMPA pattern, but with just one repeat, and at most 1 lap between maneuvers. All the pilots judge each flight except their own on the basis of 1 to 10 for the entire flight. Attention must be given to size, shape, bottoms and intersections of all maneuvers.
The models must have a flat sheet airfoil (half round leading and trailing edges OK) and maximum .061cu.in. engine for power. Flaps not allowed. Models may be borrowed, no appearance points.
Generally a flight can be completed in about 2 minutes, so the contest goes very quickly. Great fun to see the pilots dancing around trying to keep up with the routine while flying pretty quick models.
