District 10 Free Flight Envoy
Alan Friedman became interested in flying radio controlled airplanes when his wife suggested he find a hobby upon retirement. He lived in Colorado at the time and became a member of the Grand Junction, Colorado Modeleers, an AMA club, and Palm Creek RC clubs where he wintered in Casa Grande, Arizona. He went from one airplane to taking over the majority of his garage with over 30 planes.
He was instrumental in starting the Robson Ranch RC Flyers Club (AMA Club 5034) and was their first president. He then worked diligently with the city of Casa Grande, Arizona for over a year to obtain a flying field on city owned land. He then formed a non-profit corporation, The Casa Grande RC Flyers, and chartered that AMA club (# 5100), to lease the 11 acre parcel from the city to use as an airfield. He worked to provide club activities and raise funds for charities using flying events which were open to the public.
He has encouraged others to take up the hobby of model aviation, regardless of their experience or age, and to enjoy these leased club facilities. He has trained almost 30 new pilots to fly model aircraft.
